How do you cut an edge for landscaping that will last?
Every spring I take my flat head shovel and edge my beds. I stomp on the shovel to get it down in there and then wiggle it back and forth to make a " v" . Unfortunately this setup only lasts about a month before the edge is gone and soon grass is invading my beds. Often by the end of summer the entire edge of the bed is somewhat lost, even with regular weeding. I want to make some of those really deep cuts and you never see grass crossing over. How do you do that?Oh and yes we mulch properly every year...

Watering new perennials planted in landscaping fabric?
I recently had twelve new perennials planted in a bed across the front of my house. I have been keeping things watered, but am wondering if water can go through the fabric, or do I have to stream the water exactly into the center of each plant so it can go through the " X" cut and reach the roots? I'm new at this, so any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Landscaping with pebbles?
I live in Fresno, Ca. I have a backyard that is about 3,500 square feet. I was actually planning on planting grass, but I figured the water bill would be too high. So I'm deciding on using landscaping pebbles to cover the whole back yard. This way it won't get all muddy and dirty during the raining season. I need somewhere where I can purchase these pebbles and need to know about how much I would have to purchase. I'm guessing I would have to buy buy them in tons. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Landscaping with mulch?
I have an area 6' x 14' under a pine tree where nothing will grow. I'd like to replace the old plastic, mulch, and weeds that are there currently. I live in Minnesota, so snow, rain in the spring summer and leaves in the fall. Wondering if I can use black plastic instead of landscaping fabric and wood chip mulch? My concern is that the inexpensive black plastic won't allow for drainage and the wood chips will get moldy. I considered rubber mulch but it is quite expensive and not sure how my dog will react to it. Any help would be great
